Born At Midnight

The book Born at Midnight was written by Christie Craig, also known as C. C. Hunter, and is a teen fiction novel. It is the first book in the series of Shadow Falls. The main characters are Kylie Galen, Della Tsang, Burnett James, Lucas Parker, Fredericka Lakota, Miranda Cane, Holiday Branden, Perry Gomez, and Derek Lakes. This book has witches, fairies, vampires, werewolves, and another unidentified species. They start off as teens who get sent to a camp meant for “troubled teens” for the summer. Everyone at the camp, or almost everyone, has an idea of what they are and why they are going to camp. Kylie, on the other hand, thinks that she is there because she was caught at a party. She had lied to her mom and went to a party with her best friend and ended up getting caught with beer all down the front of her shirt. Her mom then decided that it was best that she go to the summer camp. She noticed everyone seeming weird whenever she did get on the bus to go, but she ignored it for the most part and tried to keep from thinking about how weird everyone else seemed.

At the beginning of the book, she starts off confused and finds out that there are other creatures out there. That scared her to death since she was at a camp full of them. She slowly started to adapt to the camp throughout the book with complications between boys and figuring out what she was. The real question is if she doesn’t know now, will she ever know what she is?

“One night, Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls - a camp for troubled teens - and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren't just ‘troubled’. Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shape-shifters, witches, and fae train side by side, learning to harness their powers, control their magic, and live in the normal world.

Kylie's never felt normal, but surely she doesn't belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks, either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn't complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek's a half Fae who's determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin' hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Derek and Lucas couldn't be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.

Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear. Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…”

Overall, this book gets 4⭐️ out of 5⭐️. The book is really interesting and I’ve read it twice, but I still feel like it’s not the best one. It keeps coming up with new surprises all throughout it, but it just seemed like the author kept building up more and more that she would have to keep remembering while writing the others. It seems to put a lot of information on you at once, but it still is very interesting—a great teen novel to read during our spare time.
